Trip to San Francisco

It seems like my yearly winter trip is going to San Francisco. Thanks to Ryan, I was able to visit San Francisco without killing my wallet as much. Unlike last year, I was more focused on using my 35mm film, so stay tuned until my films get processed, scanned, and edited. I’m expecting it to be done somewhere around late January.

On the 27th, the day I arrived, it was really foggy. I mean really foggy. The pilots missed the approach, so we had to go around. If you have seen my Instagram stories, the airport and downtown area was completely covered in fog. It resulted lack of visibility, so photos were impossible to make. 

Next morning, the weather was fairly hazy, but it was nice and warm sunny day. We went to Muir Woods National Park. We Arrived around 8:30 AM and there were a lot of people. So, if you’re planning to park here, come early! Also, $10 per person fee were waived for early birds. They told me they don’t charge until 9:00 AM.

The walk felt like a good exercise. The trails are easy and it only takes couple of hours. The smell of evergreen, quietness, birds chirping, it is a full nature experience package. As a nature lover myself, I enjoyed every second here.

Following afternoon, we went to the Twin Peaks and Golden Gate Bridge. The haze around the bridge was pretty bad. I couldn’t even see the true red color from the bridge. However, by the time we got to the Twin Peaks, the haze moved away. Lucky me!

Next morning, we walked from financial district, to China Town, and to Ferry Building Marketplace. It was a quick morning walk, but the morning atmosphere here was great for street photography. I brought my digital camera only (Nikon D750 + 50mm f/1.8G) to help myself to think more about the composition and lighting.

After the lunch break, we went to Treasure Island. Surprisingly, Ryan spotted the Great Blue Heron. I’ve always wanted to grab a shot of the heron, but they are difficult to spot in Las Vegas. I’m glad I can have this in my wildlife collection!

This is the view of Downtown San Francisco from Treasure Island. It was around 12:30PM but the haze didn’t move away forcing me to use black and white. Golden Gate Bridge on the right, Oakland – San Francisco Bridge on the left, it’s a must go places in San Francisco.
